The infection called jock itch is caused by a fungus called tinea curis. Tinea means fungus while curis means legs. Fungi thrive in an environment that is moist and damp. Thus, those who sweat a lot are prone in having this kind of disease. Athletes and those physically active individuals will surely suffer from this discomfort. This infection is dreaded by a lot of people since it may cause red round burning rashes on genitals, buttocks and thighs.

It can be very uncomfortable, especially the burning and itchy sensation that you will feel. The fungus that may cause this infection is actually present on your body most of the time but when the environment gets too favorable for them, they grow so fast and cause the infection to occur. Thus, you need to be aware of the best things that you can do to treat jock itch. The tips will surely help you how.

TOPICAL CREAM AND POWDER

Some of the most commonly used remedies are topical cream and powder. Most of the time, these contain miconazole that is very effective in curing fungal infection. In applying the cream, you need to do it daily for at least 2 to 3 weeks. If you will stop immediately after feeling some relief, the infection may occur again. Also, you can apply powder to alleviate the itch especially with chaffing.

PROPER OUTFIT

The infection will thrive well if the environment is very favorable to it. Thus, to prevent this from occurring, you need to wear proper outfit. Try to consider wearing a jock strap or supporters. This will help in keeping your genitals away from other parts of your body. In sleeping, you may also consider sleeping naked to allow the air to dry up the areas that are prone to infection. If you cannot sleep without any clothes, try to wear loose fitting underwear or boxer shorts made of cotton for the skin to breathe properly. If you will do this, you are trying to prevent the occurrence of the infection as well as the recurrence of it.

GOOD HYGIENE

It can be treated well if you practice good hygiene all the time. You need to take a bath more often especially during hot or warm days as you may sweat a lot. Also, you have to wear clean clothes and underwear and keep the skin dry all the time.

CONSULT THE DOCTOR

Sometimes, no matter what you do, you may feel that your case is hopeless as the infection cannot just be treated easily. Thus, it will be nice if you can consult a doctor. He will be able to assess it and will give the right treatment for it.
