Basic Standard Decks
There are basically three . These include: Aggro, Control and Combo.

Aggro Decks
Aggro is the short form for 'aggressive'. Decks belonging to this category are therefore known as being aggressive. Their major aim is to terminate the life of your opponent as quick as possible. They aim at reducing your opponent's life from 20 to zero. You don't use Aggro decks for long term purposes in the game. They prefer tempo-based race rather than card advantage-based attrition game. The decks convert their cards into damaging elements aimed at dealing with your opponent. The aggro decks are good at overpowering unprepared opponents and also remain unruffled in the game as well. They can inhibit your opponent's ability to respond well in the game.

Examples of the aggro decks include Goblin which uses cards like Goblin Piledriver, Siege-Gang Commander and Goblin Ringleader. Another aggro deck is White Weenie. This uses powerful creatures such as Savannah Lions, Mother of Runes and Icatian Javelineers. Other aggro decks include Affinity, Sligh, Suicide Black and some others.

Control Decks
These are unique decks that attempt to slow the game down through the execution of attrition plan. They avoid excessive racing. In most cases, the control decks usually take advantage of their slower and powerful cards in devaluing the opponent's cards. They usually do that in four ways. They can erase threats at limited cost. They may not play threats to be answered. They can disrupt synergies and also drag the game to out pass your opponent. Example of the decks includes Tezzeret which uses cards like Mana Drain and Dark Confidant. Mono Blue Control is also another deck that sues counterspells with cards such as Thirst for Knowledge, Echoing Truth and so on. Other control decks include Blue White, Psychatog, Astral Slide and some others.

Combo Decks
Combo decks use the combination of two or more cards in creating powerful effects that wins the game or that creates favorable situations that will lead you into winning the game. Combo decks value consistency, speed and power. You can always win a lot with such decks.
