When it comes to losing weight and getting fit, tools matter! Consider this for a moment. Have you ever walked across the United States of America? Have you ever ridden a bike across it? Perhaps you rode in a car? Maybe you've flown across the country in an airplane. Well if you are like most people who can say they've traveled all the way across the country you are probably one of the many who have flown in an airplane. Why? Well that's perfectly simple; it's the fastest, cheapest and most efficient way to get from one side of the United States to the other. There is a reason why people aren't walking or riding bicycles to their vacation destinations. Those tools simply are not the best ones for getting from point A to point B safely, quickly and in relative comfort.
This concept is completely relevant to the process of losing weight and becoming physically fit. Tools matter. Which tools you use influence the quality of the results you achieve and also impact how quickly, or slowly, you get them. I want to bring your attention to a number of tools that are exceptional and can assist your weight loss process and help you achieve the body you are working so hard to attain.
1. You weigh your body, weigh your food
Food scales are awesome tools to use in your kitchen. Let's face it, food portions matter. Every food has different nutritional values and being able to determine how much of a given food you require is of absolute importance when working to lose weight and live a fit lifestyle. Food scales are very affordable, most being under fifty dollars and they come with a wide variety of options. Some are electronic, others are not, but regardless of what kind you decide is right for you, you can be certain that knowing how much food you are putting into your body will help you avoid the frustration of seeing your scale standing still day-after-day.
An additional benefit of using a food scale is that you tend to learn more about nutrition simply by using the scale. Because you are weighing your portions, you tend to become curious to know what type of nutrients (calories, vitamins, minerals) the various foods in your diet contain. This places you in a powerful position and allows you to steer your nutrition to meet your needs.
2. Glass food storage containers are healthy and ensure you are prepared
More often than not, if you are dieting to lose weight and achieve physical fitness, you will find yourself eating small balanced meals often throughout the day. Most of the fitness experts I know (myself included) recommend about six meals each day if possible. Given that this meal frequency (every 3-4 hours) is probably more than you are accustomed to, it is absolutely essential that you be prepared. Being prepared in this situation means you have the proper foods ready to eat so that you can fit all these meals into your hectic day without skipping one and risking hunger which could lead you to the wrong food choices. Glass food storage containers are the perfect way to ensure that you are storing your food in a healthy manner. Glass containers do not contain the plastics and toxins that many other food storage container materials have. Plastic containers allow plastics to be transferred into your food during storage and especially when you use plastic containers to heat food. The health implications alone should be reason enough to avoid storing food in plastic containers. Always try to use heavy-duty glass food storage containers whenever possible.
Because you will most likely want to prepare some (if not all) of your meals ahead of time and store them in your refrigerator, making use of glass food storage containers just makes sense. It's a tried-and-true method used by the most celebrated physique athletes of all time and it will make a great positive difference in your weight-loss process as well.
3. Shake it up
There are a million good reasons to use protein shakes. One of the reasons I never hear anyone talk about is the concept that drinking a protein shake tends to make people feel like they are taking part in a process that is good for them. This is a powerful concept that helps build a person's self-efficacy in their weight-loss process and motivates them to keep moving forward. These days most protein shakes taste pretty good too. Many of them tend to taste more like a milkshake than something healthy, but without any of the fat and guilt that comes along with a real milkshake.
Shaker cups are an important tool that you can use to make your protein mixing faster, more efficient and completely mobile. There's nothing worse than realizing it's time for your protein shake but not being able to drink it because you don't have a blender. Well, this isn't even a concern if you have a shaker cup. Just about every supplement company has them for sale and, in my professional opinion, they are worth every penny. All you have to do is put liquid (water, milk, almond milk, etc.) into the cup, pour your protein powder in, close the lid and shake it up until it's ready to drink. Simple! One of the best things you can do to ensure you lose weight and get fit is to take away all of the excuses associated with making poor food choices. Keeping a shaker cup on-hand will do just that and it'll allow you to nourish your body anytime you need it without inconveniencing your daily schedule.
These three tools make your weight-loss goals much simpler to attain. By making your food intake accurate, readily available and convenient these three tools allow you to maintain some normalcy in your day-to-day activities which increase the likelihood of your ultimate success.
