How To Cut Calories For Weight Reduction?

There are a number of approaches that lead to the weight loss. Most of us know that they have to eat less and make the right food choices, but many of us don't know what "eat right" exactly means. It is not just about choosing the salad over the burger; it is about genuine commitment to make healthy decisions based on knowledge about the foods that are available to you.

When on a diet, the most important thing to consider is the calorie counting. Many dieters ignore that and end up frustrated about their weight loss results. Did you know that a gram of fat contains twice as many calories as a gram of carbohydrate or protein? Reduce high-fat foods in your diet, choose a low-fat option instead and you will be on your weight to a successful weight loss.

When you buy meat, think - protein. Fat is not naturally part of meat. When you buy meat, ask for lean meat. To reduce the calories you get from fat, remove the skin from chicken, cut off excess fat from lamb, pork and beef, and use minimum of cooking oil. Fish, eggs, beans and lentils also provide protein and help to curb appetite.

Replacing high-fat foods with those that are low in fat is not everything that you can do for slimmer body. You can also include fruits and vegetables in your diet. Because fruits and vegetables are bulky and contain a lot of water, they will help to control your calorie intake.

Starchy carbohydrate foods, such as bread, potatoes, rice and breakfast cereals, provide us with energy and other nutrients. They should make up about a third of your total daily energy intake. But, here is the word of warning: choose unrefined types such as wholegrain breakfast cereal. They are higher in fibre and lower in calories and they will make you feel full for longer and help to control hunger.

Milk and dairy foods such as cheese and yoghurt are an important source of calcium, protein and vitamins. Choose low-fat versions to reduce the amount of calories in your diet.

Salty and sugary foods, such as crisps, spreads, creamy dressings, sweets, cakes, biscuits and chocolate and sugar-rich drinks are high in calories - we all know that. If you want to lose weight, you need to have the foods that are packed with nutrients rather than packed with energy. You should reduce intake of salty and sugary snacks to the minimum. You can do this by snacking with fruits, diet yoghurt or a slice of wholemeal toast with reduced-fat spread. Also choose water, reduced-fat milk or fresh juices instead of sugar-rich drinks.

Nowadays, portion sizes became dangerously large, especially when it comes to ready meals and snack foods. They make us consume extra calories. Don't get trapped by the large portions, always remember that you are counting calories and losing weight as a result.

If you feel that you cannot control your environment and you need to get on a strict diet to lose weight, do it but be cautious about what you will eat after the diet is over. It is important to make a commitment upfront.
