Five Tips on How to Avoid Cheating on Your Diet

Starting a diet can be a momentous event, and most of us go into it with the best intentions. We want to lose weight, look good, and feel better! Well.. at least for the first few days. However, a few days into your diet, your ready to throw your diet to the wolves and start eating "normal" food again. Now there are a couple of tips you can use to avoid cheating on your diet, whether you use them or not is your choice. But before I get into all that, do not forget that if you cheat a little on your diet, it's not the end of the world, just call it a day and start your diet again. It's only a problem if you give up and lose focus. Now, let's go over a few of these tips that will help you avoid cheating.

1. Do not start a deprivation diet.

A deprivation diet is a diet that usually yields fast results in the beginning, but your results will usually be ruined if you give into intense cravings. If you know you have a hard time resisting your favorite foods, dont doom yourself to failure by starting a deprivation diet. Instead, find ways to simply eat less of these foods, and eventually once you feel like you can handle it cut them out completely. This way, you wont feel as though your cravings are controlling your life.

2. Allow yourself a little margin for error.

Now in order to do this you will have to have pretty good discipline, but I promise you your diet will be much more successful if you allow yourself a little wiggle room here and there. If you absolutely have to have your favorite junk food, allow yourself a small portion a couple times a week, just make absolutely sure that you can keep it to a very small portion, or else you will sabotage your diet.

3. Give yourself rewards.

One of the best ways to avoid cheating on your diet is to set of up rewards with your goals. But make sure the rewards not food related. For example, if you reach your goal that you've set for yourself, go out and do something you enjoy. This will help keep you motivated to keep going with your diet.

4. Believe in yourself.

If you believe that you can not do something, you've already set yourself up to fail. Instead of telling yourself that you can never stick to a diet, and you always end up cheating, tell yourself that you CAN do this, and you WILL reach your goals. You must have faith in yourself, you will come to times in your diet where you will want to quit, but you have to tell yourself that you will succeed. When the going gets tough, keep repeating "I can do this." If you do it often enough, you'll start to believe it and you'll be able to make it a reality.

5. Avoid your problem areas.
If you know you have trouble sticking to your diet when you go out to eat, then either make sure you bring something with you, or that your going to a place with a few healthy options. This goes for any problem areas that you might have, avoid being tempted to go off your diet as much as possible, if you can do this you will be successful with your diet.
