First off, your nutrition and diet is so vitally important if you want to lose belly fat and see those sexy abs. It is where you must begin...
In terms of diet, balance is the key to success. Low fat, carb or protein diets will not provide you with long-term results. Another key point is to stay away from heavily processed foods and eat as much natural food as possible.
A Good Nutritional Diet Will Comprise Off:
Eating fat will not make you fat! If you eat too little fat then this can negatively affect hormonal levels in your body which will in turn produce more cravings. Now do not go and much down 5 happy meals, aim for good, natural fats such as olive oil, eggs, meat, nuts and avocados.
Eating enough protein. A wonderful thing about protein is its thermic effect when you digest it (burns calories when you eat it!) and regulates your hunger meaning you're satisfied for longer. Protein is of course your bodies building block as well, which means you will maintain your muscle. Muscle is very important in controlling your metabolism, so this is also good. Aim for about 0.8-1 gram of protein per pound of weight in a day.
Chew on that fiber! Get your carbohydrate intake from high fiber sources such as fruits and vegetables. Common staples of carbohydrates such as bread and pasta are not good here as they are overly processed. You want to look for carbohydrates which have around 2-3 grams of fibre per 10 grams of carbs. Fibre is great for filling you up, meaning you will feel more full and less likely to snack.
Avoid These Bad Boys!:
Trans fat.... urgghhhh. Modern food has plowed this into so much food. Thought margarine was a healthy alternative? Nope.
High Fructose Corn Syrup. Those four words can almost put the obesity epidemic of the modern world in a nut shell. I often find it quite disturbing that this has been allowed to be put into so much food so many people consume everyday. It is extremely bad for all of us. In fact I am going to do a quick case study on this... bear with me; any sweetened drink. Good old friendly sweetened, ay? Nope, what a menace.
Back in the day sweetened drinks used to use sugar as a sweetener which is still not great for you but, at least it is relatively natural. But as sugar is traded on the commodities market its price is estimated by future traders which means its price can widely vary causing the business brains back at the heads of various companies had a headache. In the late 20th century some bright spark created High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS).
How wonderful thought the business minds, we can use HFCS to sweeten our drinks and as HFCS is essentially corn, it can be produced on a massive scale and is not affected by price swings like sugar is. And now here we are where almost everything sweet you taste in modern-day food (perhaps not your tea) is sweetened using HFCS which play havoc with your incredible body! So yeah.... stay away from sweetened drinks.
In summary, if you could kill it, fish it, or pick it out of the ground it is probably good to eat. However if it is man-made (sugar drinks, fast food, nasty white bread, alcohol....) then stay away as much as possible.
