Lots of very fit people use walking to lose weight, it isn't just a thing done by the old and infirm. Whilst it is a gentler and more easily accessible activity to do, you mustn't miscalculate the advantages that you get from doing it constantly, not just in regards to losing weight, but also enhancing your health, posture and energy levels.
However if you're aiming to get rid of some weight and you've made a decision that walking is the way you're going to do this, then there are 4 critical factors that you must take into account...
1. Get in to the routine. Walking to lose weight is equivalent to almost every other activity... YOU NEED TO DO IT constantly. Twice a week isn't enough, you should aim to perform some type of walking at least once a day. Don't stress, I'm not advising you should walk for an hour every time, there are a lot more effective ways of walking for weight loss than this.
2. Build up slowly but surely. Yes you will need to walk often, this is correct. But you should continue to build up slowly if you aren't used to working out. It's a good idea to perform some walking every day, but at the start you may only walk for short distances.
3. Don't just saunter along and take in the views on each and every walk you do. Mix things up, push yourself out of your comfort zone. Try out some extended slower walks where you can relax and enjoy your surroundings by all means, but you might also want to do some shorter more rigorous walks where you use power walking strategies, to enhance fat loss.
4. Make some small adjustments to your diet. Let's be very clear on one issue. No matter which activity you choose to assist you to get rid of the pounds, it's absolutely vital that you reduce the amount of calories you eat each day, or at least enhance the quality of those calories.
If you only begin walking but don't modify your diet, you probably won't see much of a big difference in the scales. Yes you'll make progress slowly, but the real answer to slimming down is to attack it from 2 directions. First of all you really need to burn off extra energy through exercise or becoming more active and, second of all, you need to lower the amount of calories that you consume. This process makes certain that you'll shed weight at the fastest rate achievable.
If you're planning on using walking to lose weight, then my suggestion is 'go for it.' It's a fantastic low impact method of exercise which is enjoyable, sociable and IF done right, a very effective way of losing a few pounds.
